On Wednesday, November 16th, 2022 each of Ģ����ý’s 75 school locations will open their doors to women, men, and children of all ages for haircuts, coloring, nail services, and more. All proceeds during this one-day event from these student salon services will be donated to local anti-domestic violence programs/shelters. 

Ģ����ý students will be selling $1 donation cards throughout the entire month of November, as well as raffle tickets for beauty product baskets.

At Ģ����ý, students learn how to become the first line of defense in the fight against domestic violence. Through special training, our students learn to identify signs of abuse and offer help by providing the National Domestic Violence Hotline number to those who may be in need.

Ģ����ýs donated nearly $60,000 to local anti-domestic violence programs in 21 states recently.

The donations were presented during the systems annual National Day of Beauty event.
Celebrating its 14th year, Empire’s ‘National Day of Beauty’ coincides with Domestic Violence Awareness month, which is nationally recognized every October.

While this one-day event features a donation to these valuable local programs, Empire’s support for local shelters spans all year long.

Each of Empire’s more than 80 campuses has “adopted” a local women’s shelter. Along with fundraiser throughout the year to raise much-needed dollars for these programs, Ģ����ý also provides complimentary beauty services to shelter residents as well as an Endowment opportunity for any shelter resident wishing to improve their life through beauty school education.

System-wide nearly, $60,000 was donated to more than 80 programs. The funds were raised throughout the year through the sale of $5 polish manicures and $1 Donation Cards.

“To be able to offer this kind of support to so many vital programs is special to us,” says Franklin Schoeneman, Chairman, of Ģ����ýs. “Through our Empire Gives Back initiative we support these programs and others through, not only the funds raised, but through awareness to the resources these programs provide. We’ve committed to this annual support for nearly 15 years, and our staff and students are amazingly supportive of our involvement.”

According to the, National Coalition against Domestic Violence (NCADV), on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.

1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.

“According to our partner organizations, the salon is one place a victim of Domestic Abuse may visit without her or his partner,” says Schoeneman. “We know clients and stylists often forge friendships and hold conversations during their services that could signal signs of abuse. Stylists are in a unique position to refer clients who confide in them to our local partner organizations for help.”

Since 2014, Ģ����ýs have donated more than $2 million dollars in funds and in-kind donations to shelters throughout the country.

When Ģ����ý Executive Director Susan Kettenburg received a phone call from a woman inquiring about where to purchase a wig, she knew just who could answer her
question.

Maria Class, an educator at Ģ����ý in Lehigh Valley, PA spoke with the caller (Wanda) who explained how an illness had left her with hair loss. She was looking for recommendations on purchasing a wig. Ms. Class explained to Wanda that if she would be willing to be a model for her students she would provide her with a wig, however, the students would do the work.

Ms. Class spoke with her students and they all agreed they wanted to help. Wanda came in for a consultation, had her head measured and picked her colors. The students donated all the hair used to make 2 wigs. Once the work was complete, Wanda was invited to class to receive her wigs. She was so appreciative and grateful for the kindness our students showed her.

Making the day even better, local high school students who came in for Experience Day got to be a part of the excitement. Great job goes to our students and staff at Ģ����ý, Lehigh Valley for making an impact and improving lives through the world of beauty!
